● The focus of Dr. Hepp’s research and the reasoning behind the need for this project, is to find the origins of the West Nile Virus by determining if it is native to Maricopa County or imported annually, which will be conducted by setting mosquito traps in a wide remote area to map the virus location and spread.
● The project will take an existing, simple mosquito trap and create a device/circuit that will detect when a mosquito has entered the trap and relay that information to Dr. Hepp and her team remotely.
● This will allow for Dr. Hepp’s research to be conducted more efficiently by reducing the resources needed to collect the mosquitoes and keep the trap running and working properly for longer periods of time without human interference.
